Kitsch for the Kitchen

I am concerned that as I'm getting older I'm drawn to pottery animals. I previously thought they were a bit naff but lately I've begun admiring them on flea markets and then I went a stage further and bought this Hilda Ogdenesque bird that now hangs on my kitchen wall. What is going on there then? Anyway I'm just taking my rollers out then I'm popping to the market for half a pound of tripe. TTFN

Beetroot anyone?

I've grown more than I shake a stick at this year...it looks nice in my trug though

Leaf it....

I'm really enjoying these crisp Autumn days. It makes me glad I've got a dog to take me outside more....mobile phone cameras are brilliant aren't they.

Victoria's got knits...

Not headlice...heh heh no knits with a K. Aren't these the most gorgeous knitted owls in the world? Not that I've made an extensive study but I'm pretty sure. My friend Karen made these for me from a vintage pattern I found for her on the web. There are three on the pattern (a family....sweet) but I just have mother and baby owl so far. They are cushions but I don't sit on them because I couldn't look at them across the room if I did and I don't want to squash them.

Vintage Fair coming up....

I'll be selling my wares at  the Discover Vintage Fair on Sunday October 3rd at recently restored Victoria Baths near Longsight in Manchester. It's a lovely way to spend an afternoon browsing amongst the treasures and it's in the most beautiful setting with decorative tiled walls and stained glass windows.

The address is Victoria Baths, Hathersage Road, Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester M13 0FE.
Open 10am - 4pm

Come along and say hello.

Loafing around

This is my new lemon yellow bread bin that I got from my favourite shop in Todmorden, Hogarth and Hunt. I'm very pleased with it as it's huge and fits in a big loaf no problem, not that loaves last very long around here. The bad news is that the shop is closing down at the end of this month so I won't be getting any more beautiful vintage homewares from there.

Chin Chin

Now the children have gone back to school I'm considering dressing like Audrey Hepburn and replacing my seven cups of tea a day with quaffing champagne out of these very elegant glasses.

Item of the week...

I picked up this chintzy delight last week, there is nearly a full set but not quite. I am dressing my child in chintz too as it's the new black this season.

Vintage collecting

This is my very first post about my best vintage finds. Most of my items are kitchen related because I am drawn to items that remind me of my Grandma's kitchen, some are irresistable homewares and I'll probably feature the odd dog  fashioned out of an old sock. When my small terrace gets too full up I sell some of my treasures at Vintage Fairs and will post details of those as they come up. I don't think I will part with the dog sock though, he's a bit special.
